Are you wondering if we forgot to put the gazebo in this photo?

Don’t worry – we’re taking a short break from gazebos, etc. today, and will talk about a related subject instead.

What does your backyard look like – a war zone, a dump site, grass taller than you, stuff everywhere, lost or misplaced items over the years could even turn up…It is easy to look out the window one day and find something other than your backyard.

If you organize and put things away you will reclaim lots of space and here are some backyard landscaping ideas that will transform your yard from cluttered and dangerous to highly functional areas with extreme curb appeal.

You can put in beautiful structures such as gazebos, pergolas, pool cabanas, pool houses, sunrooms (and more), create an enticing garden with fruit, veggies, flowers, and trees, and surround your entire home with some simple landscaping ideas that will get you rock-star status in your neighborhood (or close to it).

So, you think it is a lot of work and you need additional convincing. OK.

Here are a few reasons to landscape your property:

  • Studies reveal that landscaping can increase the value of residential and commercial property from 5% to as much as 20%.
  • Money magazine reports that landscaping as a home improvement project has a recovery value of 100-200% when it enhances the design of your home. This compares to a kitchen overhead of 75-125% or a bathroom redesign of 80-120%.
  • A Clemson University study found consumers value a landscaped home up to 11.3 % higher than its base price.
  • Clemson University also studied home sales and compared the results based on varying levels of landscape quality. They found that well designed landscaped homes had faster sales because of first impressions.
  • A survey by the Society of Real Estate Appraisers revealed that 95% of the appraisers believed that landscaping adds to the dollar value of residential real estate, while 99% of them said it enhanced the sales appeal of residential real estate.

Clearly you have the power to transform your property into a veritable resort. How? You could hire a professional landscape designer and mostly like end up with stunning results. 7. Hi Rae and Mark,

Wow! what a great product for helping people to learn to do landscaping. Hearing that there is a 100-200% return is an excellent attribute. Thank you for including that. Additionally, well, if you are IN a gazebo, LOOKING out across the landscaped yard and garden is precisely what you’ll see! So they are related!
