We’re back on the gazebo trail today, with the 12-sided Dodecagon Gazebos.

It seems to us as though the more sides there are on your gazebo, the more gazebo-like it looks.

Anyway, the gazebo shown here is a Red Cedar Double Roof Dodecagon Gazebo, although there are other models that we’ll come on to shortly.

Like all of the different styles we’ll be showing you, there are six sizes available, ranging from 20 ft up to 30 ft. (and the one depicted above is the largest, 30ft model).

Red Cedar Single Roof Dodecagon GazeboThese dodecagonal gazebos are not, therefore, for people with limited space, as even their smallest model, at 20 ft, will require a good deal of room in your garden.

We’ve featured the double-roof version because, as you should know by now, that’s what we prefer, but of course they also do a single-roof dodecagon gazebo, which looks like this.

For those of you who are not so keen on the look of red cedar, then they also do the exact same gazebos in both treated pine and vinyl, as you can see below:

We’ve already talked about why red cedar is such a popular and wise choice for outdoor structures such as gazebos in our Gazebo Building Tips article, and we’ve also seen plenty of items made from treated pine, but we’ve not really discussed vinyl that much yet, other than to mention that this usually means there is a vinyl sheath covering the wood underneath.

You probably already are aware that vinyl is not a natural substance – it’s a synthetic, man-made material.

It is actually a type of plastic that is made from ethylene (found in crude oil) and chlorine (found in regular salt). When processed, these substances are combined to form Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) resin, or as it is commonly referred to – Vinyl.

Now, while this may sound all chemical and nasty (and believe us, we hate chemicals), it turns out that vinyl is an incredibly eco-friendly material, both because it is easily recycled, and also because it has a very long life span that eliminates the need for constant replacement. Furthermore, since 57% of vinyl is made from the renewable, natural substance, common salt, using it helps conserve non-renewable resources.

Cedar FlooringNext, let’s talk about the flooring.

The red cedar gazebos come, naturally, with red cedar flooring, which is made form 100% Western Red Cedar. (Actually, all of the visible lumber is made from this wood – the joists, which you can’t see, are made from pine lumber, but that’s because this is structurally slightly stronger than the cedar.)

Cedar can be sealed and stained to maintain its reddish appearance, or it can be allowed to weather, over time, to its natural rich, gray color.

Western Red Cedar is strong enough to support a hot tub, tough enough to withstand nature’s toughest elements, and attractive enough to satisfy the most discriminating tastes.

Treated Pine FlooringThe other two models – the treated pine and the vinyl gazebos – both come, as standard, with 5/4×6″ flooring, which is made of #1 Grade Southern Yellow Pine that has been pressure-treated to resist decay and insect damage. As with all of their treated wood products, the wood is “KDAT” (kiln dried after treatment) to make sure it stays flat and does not bow or twist.

It is strongly recommended that you seal the floor regularly (every two years, depending on your location) to maintain its appearance; or, if you prefer a more rustic look, you can allow it to gray and still keep the protection from the elements.

We think you’ll agree that this dodecagon gazebo is both unusual but appealing, whether you prefer red cedar, treated pine or vinyl.
