Having recently explained the difference between gazebos and pergolas, we thought we’d bring you a pergola today, for a change from gazebos.

Now, we admit that this is not your common or garden pergola, as it also incorporates a swing seat as well, hence its name, the Pergola Swing Set.

It may look a bit bare now, but once you let a few flowers, such as Honeysuckle and Clematis, weave their way through the trellis sides, it will not only be completely transformed, but it will also provide a private little hide-away for you to sit, swing and relax.

Perhaps you’ll be content to watch nature – hummingbirds, for example, will be attracted to these flowers.

Or maybe you just need to get away from the rest of the family for some alone time – a gentle swing in the evening breeze while you meditate.

If you have an electronic reading device, such as a Kindle, then you might enjoy catching up with your favourite newspaper (yes, these can be auto-delivered, wirelessly, to your Kindle reader), or reading a chapter or two of your book.

Maybe you’ve got some work to do, so why not take your wireless laptop outside and get it done, without the distractions of the TV, for example?

Dog Catching FrisbeeAnd if you have a (well-trained) dog, you could just sit there, swinging gently to and fro, while you throw a ball, a stick or even a Frisbee for him to run and fetch – that way, he works off his excess energy without wearing you out in the process.

And finally, the swing part of the pergola set is clearly made to be large enough for two people, which opens up a whole other range of ideas for this beautiful piece of garden furniture – and with flowers growing all around the trellis-work, you’ll be nicely secluded too.

So, what about the Pergola Swing Set itself?

Well, it’s made entirely of sturdy, hand-crafted western red cedar.

The pergola part is 84 inches wide, 74 inches deep and 74 inches tall, and it weighs 225 pounds, while the swing is 50 inches wide, 24 inches deep and 35 inches tall, and this weighs 65 pounds.

Now, you will need to do a bit of assembly, but the illustrated step-by-step instructions will make everything clear, besides which, the pergola comes in just three pre-assembled lattice panels and pre-drilled beams for quick and easy installation, while the swing comes as a four-piece kit, complete with all of the necessary hanging hardware and 24ft of heavy duty playground chain for convenient set-up.

That sounds as simple as it gets – even we could put that together – which means we are happy to recommend this Pergola Swing Set to you.

First off I am sorry that I have not posted before as some of the others in the course know I am tech challanged I asked my son Scott how to respond to your site.
I can see how this simple swing could make a very big impact on a back yard and can see myself relaxing in the swing.

  3. What a beautiful piece! Swinging can be so calming, and this provides a delightful little hideaway. This could go well in one spot of the yard from which we enjoy our lake view.

  7. I love this. But I also grew up in the land of porch swings. Very few people have porches up here in the NW so this would be a good option.

So far, I have really liked everything you have shown. I live on a wooded lot with a creek running through the back of the property. This pergola swing set would be perfect.

I also have a lot of Hummingbirds so I could really see myself in the swing with a good book, a hot cup of coffee and Mother Nature.
